Melatonin
Melatonin is produced from serotonin and released in darkness according to circadian timing. Its production and use are coordinated by the light-dark cycle, temperature, the microbiome, DHA, EPA, and sulfate rather than by precursor availability alone.
Melatonin lowers body temperature, supports UCP-mediated uncoupling, and protects and repairs mitochondria. During sleep, fatty acids released from subcutaneous fat sustain electron flow, heat, and metabolic water, connecting melatonin to mitochondrial magnetism.
